Reuben Christianson

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

-Romans 8:35-39

Sometimes in life you meet people and without hesitation, you immediately know that one person is held to a higher standard of life. Reuben is one of those guys. He is known by his peers as not only good looking, but as a caring, loving person who is a true disciple of Christ. Furthermore, in addition to possessing such wonderful traits, he seeks to help others exhibit those traits in their own lives too. That is what makes him a great person.

Growing up, and even now, Reuben’s life has been shaped by his own individuality and by caring role models; his primary role model being his father and then his uncles. Reuben’s father has always been there for him to offer advice on life, school and everything in-between. Reuben explained that no matter what problem he is having, and no matter what problem he may ever have, he knows that he can discuss it with his father who will lovingly help him work through it. I can only imagine what the world would be like if we all had fathers like Reuben’s, people to teach us from an early age the value of the family and the value of an honest life.

One of the many things I admire about Reuben is that he recognizes how fortunate he is to have role models in his life and seeks to be a role model in other’s lives helping in any way he can.

My favorite part about interviewing Reuben on his awesomeness was when I asked who and what he aspires to be. He painted a vivid picture of his future for me; he imagines himself working in hospital management and living a simple life in a modest mountain home that has a white picket fence. He sees himself happy with a loving wife surrounded by wonderful children. Not only does Reuben desire greatness for his family and himself, but his desires to reach out to others. He desires to hopefully work with the youth in his faith, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, to enable them to be great individuals too.

It is evident that Reuben loves life and everything it has to offer. He recognizes the worth of each individual soul and is fascinated by what everyone has to offer. Reuben has a unique way of making the people he talks to feel like they are the most important person in the world.

Reuben openly admitted to having a profound love for shoes and blue jeans, but says the addiction ends there, it doesn’t extended into shirts or any other clothing articles. He loves reading and working out and has turned his passions into worthy goals; he is aiming to participate in national Cross Fit competitions and to read all the classics.

Reuben is a delightful soul who has the true ability to influence and change the world to make it a much better place. While talking with him I asked, “In the far far future, when those you love are speaking about you at your funeral, what do you hope they will say about you? What and who do you want to be known for?” His response made me laugh, “Assuming they are telling the truth—you know people lie at those things— I would want to be known as a caring person who dedicated his life to the service of others.” He expressed to me that he is far from that person, but is working every day to get there. Reuben is exactly that person.
